Namibian Chefs Association Gala Dinner – 2011
Arebbusch Travel Lodge attended the 2011 Namibian Chef’s Association which was held on the 7th July 2011 in the Parliament gardens in Windhoek, Namibia.
The evening started off with a welcoming by Tom Mutavdzic who is the President of the Namibian Chef’s Association. We were then served with the starter- a fresh salmon mousse, served with horseradish sour cream, dill, capers and a crastini shard.
After the Starter, Mr Arnold Tanzer the director of the World Association of Chef’s Society made a speech about how it all began. We than had a laugh with Johan Engelbrecht who did a little Comedy show for us, he was absolutely hilarious, after all that laughter we were served with a Magnificent Main Course which was Namibian beef sirloin with a mushroom & sherry sauce served on a cauliflower puree with seasonal vegetables.
The Main Course was then followed by the highlight of the evening, which was the auctioning off of some senior chefs. The chef has to cook dinner for you with friends or family, it was amazing on how much money people were willing to spend on a chef for one night, chefs ranged from N$3000.00 to N$8000.00. All of the money raised is going to help some of the Namibian chefs get to the international cooking competition in Abu Dhabi later this year. Shortly after the auction we had dessert, which was Namibian phyllo pastry dessert with dates & amarula cream, very delicious I must say.
The evening ended off with a prize giving ceremony, a few junior and senior chefs that took part in the competition were awarded with certificates and prizes, just to mention a few off the prizes they got, dinner for four at Hotel Heinitzburg, game drives, cooking books, aprons, breakfast for two at Kalahari sands, trip to sossusvlei lodge etc.
All in all it was a memorable evening.
