Conquered the desert & back in your hotel, Windhoek too has some watering holes you may want to explore

Windhoek watering holes

A good part of the Namibian desert elephant’s life is spent traipsing across the parched, desolate landscape in search of water.  Well, we’d never allow you to go without something to quench your thirst while on your stay in Namibia.  Scarce as water is here, Namibia, after all, is renowned for another precious resource – gold in colour – Beer!

After a scorching hot day in the sun, it’s an absolute must that you rehydrate at one of the popular spots all situated conveniently close to your hotel.  Windhoek’s watering holes are aplenty, but here is a quick guide to whet your appetite.

Beer Facts

Windhoek lager is something of a legend here; the national drink some would say… You can have an exclusive look at how this beer is lovingly created, blended and nurtured to perfection at Namibia Breweries Limited.  You’ll have to call +264 (61) 320 4999 to arrange a tour.

Their website is worth a visit too with loads of great information and facts about beer as well as recipes for some mouth-watering dishes.

Indie Beer

Camelthorn Brewing Company is the new kid on the block, a microbrewery which promises to add interesting new flavour to the mix.

Eat, Drink & Be Merry

Once you’ve got the low-down and are feeling something of an expert, then you’re ready to explore the wild beyond. Joe’s Beer House has certainly achieved “Big Cat” status as watering holes go, and you are going to run into other herds … eh, crowds of tourists and locals jostling for a sip of the golden liquid.

So, if you’re planning to eat, it’s probably best to book in advance as Joe’s is also renowned for excellent German cuisine.  Call +264 (61) 232 457. All species are catered for here, but admittedly, carnivores are still king – a great place to meet locals and fellow travellers.

Now that you’ve wet your whistle and are feeling confident enough to strut your stuff  or show off your mating call, puff up your feathers, gather up your troupe and parade down to one of the nightclubs or karaoke bars – another perfect day in the paradise.
