Golf may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of things to do in Namibia, but there is no shortage of places to swing a club in this desert environment. While you might imagine these spots to be nothing but one endless bunker, you will find manicured greens and top designs throughout the country.
These are some of our top picks for golfing in Namibia
Windhoek Golf and Country Club
Easily accessible from your Windhoek accommodation via the Western Bypass, Windhoek Golf and Country club lies alongside Arebbusch Travel Lodge and Eros airport, on the southern outskirts of the capital city. Windhoek Golf and Country Club presents a lush 18-hole, par 72 golfing outing in natural bushveld, against the backdrop of the Aus Mountains.
The course is well-suited to a relaxing round of low-key holiday golf with clubs and carts for hire, a putting green, restaurant, bar, casino and Pro Shop on site.
Omeya Golf
Take a trip to Omeya Golf Club for a scenic golfing treat, just 30km’s outside of Windhoek. Spectacular views of mountains and natural landscapes are features of every beautifully manicured hole here, with warthogs and impala often seen grazing on the outskirts of the course. This 18-hole, par 72 course was designed by Peter Matkovich, with natural hazards, trees and flowing contours adding to the challenge.
Golf trolleys, a driving range, Pro Shop, pub and a putting green are available at this course.
Rossmund Golf Course
This interesting course is one of only five registered all-grassed desert golf courses in the world. With fairways and greens laid out among its sandy stretches, Rossmund Golf Course is one of Namibia’s most popular places to play. Located close to the seaside adventure capital of Swakopmund, this par 72, 18-hole course is one for your bucket list when visiting Namibia.
This venue offers the full spectrum of services including a driving range, putting green, golf clubs for hire, a Pro Shop, restaurant, bar and a coaching professional.
Oranjemund Golf Course
The Oranjemund Golf Club may only feature 9-holes but this course is one of the toughest in Namibia, with punishing roughs and harsh winds to make up for the wide fairways. While mulligans are the order of the day here, visitors are heartily welcomed, and it is well worth trying to crack this course if you happen to be exploring the other-worldly south-western reaches of Namibia. This is pure golf, with no added frills.
Tsumeb Golf Course
Another small, yet satisfying golfing excursion may be found about an hour’s drive from Etosha National Park’s Von Lindequist gate. Known as the ‘Bush Course’, Tsumeb offers a superb test of man against the natural surroundings and provides a testing, albeit short, golfing day out.
Tsumeb Golf Course features a driving range, equipment to hire, a putting green and a clubhouse to quench your thirst after a round on this challenging desert course.
Take up the challenge of the desert and add golfing to your to do list when planning your next Namibian holiday.
